Between Two Lights – Brendan Keogh, Rose Moran

Between Two Lights by Rose Moran

Walk between waters
Inny and Royal Canal
Where bridges span them
Walk near Abbeyshrule
Centuries-old Cistercian

Cemetery crosses catch
Evening’s sun
Abbey ruin eyes them
Darns together memories
Novembers all the departed

Townlands, family names
Leap like fish
Netted from the stream
Running waters laugh
Canal boats dream

We harvest mementos
Of annual gatherings
Sun-warmed sky to west
As twilight falls on
A child between two lights
